Milan§

I have lived in Milan for nearly twenty years. So I have many photos from the city, grouped in several albums based on sites and neighborhoods.

Besana Rotonda§

The Rotonda is a baroque complex in Milan. It was built between 1695 and 1732 and includes a hectagonal colonnade portico with a garden and the deconsacrated church, San Michele ai Sepolcri.

Brera§

The Brera neighborhood includes many bars, restaurants, shops, and galleries. It also includes main art museum of Milan, the Pinacoteca di Brera. The Pinacoteca contains one of the largest collections of Renaisance art.

Ca’ Grande§

The Ca’Grande used to a large hospital, but is now occupied by Università degli Studi di Milano (i.e., the University of Milan). It’s located next to the Basilica of San Nazaro in Brolo.

Civic Aquarium§

The Civic Aquarium of Milan is the third oldest aquarium in Europe. It was built in 1906 as part of the Milan International, the world’s fair of that year. It’s the only building remaining from the event.

Parco Sempione§

Parco Sempione is a large public park in Milan. Formed in 1888, with 95 acres, it’s located in the centre of the city. It includes a soccer arena, a couple of bars, an aquarium, and other public facilities, as well has plenty of pathways and ponds.

Piazza Cinque Giornate§

Starting on March 18 of 1848, there was a rebellion in Milan that lasted for five days and drove out Marshal Radetzky and his Austrian soldiers. It was the start of the first Italian war of independence. An obelisk monument and set of statues were built to commemorate that battle. This is my favorite statuary in Milan.

Piazza dei Mercanti§

Piazza Mercanti is a square in the center of Milan, near the Piazza del Duomo, In the past, during the Middle Ages, it was the main market place for the city.

Piazza della Duomo§

The cathedral in Milan, Italy is known as the Duomo. Inside are about 3500 works of art. In front is a large square with a statue of King Vittorio Emanuelle II of Italy.

Piazza della Scala§

La Scala is the famous opera house in Milan. There’s a small square in front of the theater with a monument of Leonardo da Vinci. This square connects with the back entrance to the Galleria.

Piazza San Fedele§

San Fedele church in Milan is a Jesuit church. It’s dedicated to St. Fidelis of Como, patron of Como.

San Lorenzo alle Colonne§

The Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore is a church in Milan. It was built in Roman times and subsequently rebuilt several times over a number of centuries.

San Nazaro Basillica§

The basilica of San Nazaro in Brolo, also known as San Nazaro Maggiore, is a church in Milan that was built in late fourth-century.

Santa Maria delle Grazie§

Santa Maria delle Grazie church in Milan, which includes a Dominican convent is where the mural of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci is located.

Sforzesco Castle§

The Castello Sforzesco is a medieval castle in Milan, Italy. It was built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, then Duke of Milan. It’s one of the largest fortresses in Europe.

The Galleria§

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II — named after the first king of the Kingdom of Italy — is Italy’s oldest active closed-in shopping center.
