About§

This site is primarily about me, Russell Dyer, a writer living in Europe. I don’t use this site to promote my writing activities: I have another site for that.

About Russell Dyer

My full name is Russell Joseph Thadeus Dyer. I was born in New Orleans and lived most of my life there, but now live in Milan, Italy. My father was of Brittish and Saxon descent. He was a major in the Louisiana Army National Guard and a Lieutenant for the New Orleans Police Department, head of the Intelligence Division. He died of cancer when I was only three years old. My mother is of Sicilian descent. She remarried when I was seven and moved the family to Massachusetts for eight years before returning to New Orleans where she now lives.

As for education, I graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans primarily with a degree in English. Years later I returned to school to get a Master’s degree in English, first at University of New Orleans, but finished at Southeastern Louisiana University.

With regards to employment, I have worked for the past twenty years in the software business. I started actually in 1981 selling and using Tandy TRS-80 Model One computers — the start of microcomputers — but left to work for over ten years in the investment business in various roles from a clerk to a stock broker to a corporate executive. After the investment jobs, I worked two years for the St. Vincent de Paul Society helping the poor and homeless before returning to the software business.

I’ve published hundreds of articles and a few books about computer software. Some of my books were published by the premier computer book publisher O’Reilly Media. Two has been translated to several languages. As for my fiction work, this field is more competitive and I have not made sufficient time for developing or promoting my writings in this area. You can learn more about my writing activities on one of my other sites by clicking on the Writing tab above.
