I finally made it to Madeira. It's an island in the Atlantic Ocean, located a few hundred miles west of Morocco, but a possession of Portugal. There aren't any sandy beaches. Instead the coasts are mountains and cliffs with abrupt drops into the water. The land is lush with greenery, including banana plantations and wine vineyards. The main city and most of the population is located in Funchal. Sub-tropical weather and lots of fresh air make a visit here heavenly.
