These photo albums include photographs from my first trips to Europe (i.e., Prague, Berlin, and Amsterdam), and they include more extensive photos from trips I made while living in Europe. As you look at these, you may notice a lower quality to older photos. They were taken when I had a point-and-shoot digital camera.
This is a new album, but there aren't any new photos in it. Instead, I've grouped my photo album for Lyon and Paris together under this new album for trips to France. I'm trying to better organize my albums and to encourage myself to make more visits to countries like France and Germany.
My favorite alcoholic drink is a fortified wine such as port. So, naturally, I've long had an interest in visiting Portugal where some of the best fortified wines are made. Thus far I've only visited Lisbon and Madeira—photographs from those trips are included in this album—but hope to visit the northern region and see some of the vineyards. I also would like to go to the Azores and hope to do that soon.
This is the start of a new primary photo album containing albums with photographs of my trips to Germany. For now it just has pictures from my recent trip to Heidelberg. It also contains photos from my trip to Berlin two years ago. After going to Heidelberg, I'm thinking that I will make more trips to Germany in the coming year.
Living in southern Europe with all its charm, I have little motivation to go to the British Isles, other than to change planes on my way to or from the U.S. Nevertheless, I've made a couple trips to the British Isles so far. These are the photo albums from those trips.
Just north of Italy, near Milan where I live these days, is Switzerland. I've made a couple of trips there and intend to make many more. These albums include pictures of those trips.
MySQL Developer's conference in Riga, Latvia.
My first trip to Europe was to Prague for a MySQL developer conference for about two weeks. It's beautiful there and was a great experience. Less than six months later, I moved to Europe.
One of the founders of MySQL is Monty Widenius. I spent a weekend at his home near Helsinki, Finland. Despite the extensive meetings for such a short trip, I managed to get into town for a bit to see the sights and to snap some photos.
While not as beautiful as its sister capital Prague, the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava has a decent supply of enchantment for weekend of leisure. Besides, the air fare there was only twenty euros round-trip from Milan, from there it's a short ride by train to Vienna.
Vienna was not on my list of cities to visit from my childhood, nor had it found its way onto my list since. However, this city has its own special charm and is rich with history and has plenty to see including an intact castle with its contents. And, opera seems to be everywhere.
Barcelona is my favorite city of Europe. Not only is the architecture and women beautiful, and the food excellent, but most of all I enjoyed the friendliness of the people. I felt very comfortable there.
After the hurricane and my refugee days, I went to Amsterdam for about a week for the EuroOSCon meeting and for a bit of recovery. It was a great place for it before forging into Italy to begin my new life there.
