Aosta Valley, or Val d’Aosta is a mountainous semi-autonomous region of Italy, located in the north west part of Italy. It’s on the border of France and Switzerland. Aosta a small region, separated from the rest of Italy by the region of Piedmont. So far I’ve only visited the very small town of Bard where there’s fortress built high on the mountain.
Bard is located in the Aosta Valley, or Val d'Aosta. In this town can be found a fortress built for the Count of Aosta, Umberto Biancamano (11th century), who was the founder of the House of Savoy. When I visited the town, it was an off day with all of the shops closed. I did manage to visit the fortress, which houses a museum about the Alps.
